This week brought us Sony’s state of play event, a live action trailer for Black Ops 6 and the unwelcome news that Bungie wants to take over your hard drive with a ginourmous Destiny 2 update.

State of Play event

Sony has decided that the world needs more hero shooters (for some reason) and announced Both Concord and Marvel Rivals during its state of play event. Quite why they thought announcing both at the same time was a good idea is anyones guess. I am not hopeful that these games will have longevity in a world where Overwatch, Valorant, Rainbox Siz Siege and Apex Legends exist.

The announcement that has garnered the most interest online appears to be Astrobot. Who knew that if you announced an actual video game, designed to be engaging and fun, and not just another free to play cash funnel, that people would respond positively.

Also announced were a slew or re-releases and remasters for new platforms including God of War Ragnorok for PC and Silent Hill 2. It feels like Sony are copying the Disney model for managing/mining their content library. Instead of releasing Live Action versions of past properties, Sony are releasing remakes or extended/enhanced editions of their most popular titles.

Black Ops 6

Xbox has released a live action trailer for Black Ops 6 which features uncanny versions of some famous (infamous surely) past world leaders. The game appears to take place during the first Golf War but right now not much more is known. The big news is that the game will appear on all currently supported consoles including PS4 and Xbox One, and presumably at some stage the Nintendo Switch. It was also revealved the game will debut on Xbox GamePass day 1. Finally subscribers will start to see some of the benefit to $70B Microsoft spent on that aquisition.

The Final Shape takes over your storage

Bungie has announced that “The Final Shape,” the next expansion for Destiny 2, will be available for pre-load on PC starting February 25, 2024. This pre-load period is designed to help players prepare for the expansion’s official release on February 27, 2024. Just a shame these files are 300GB in size which is

The expansion will introduce a new storyline, missions, and gameplay features, and aims to provide a seamless launch experience by allowing players to download and install the necessary files in advance.

As reported by Insider gaming –

Once the update has been installed, the old version of Destiny 2 will be installed as the new version is layered over the top, ultimately slicing down the total installation size by around half. It just needs that extra wiggle room to deliver said update.

  • PlayStation 5: 143.81 GB
  • PlayStation 4: 110.7 GB
  • Xbox One: 139.52 GB
